Job Title: Sous Chef – Term Time Only

Location: Richmond Park, London

Position Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Schedule: 5 days out of 7, with a minimum of 1 weekend off per month

Working Hours: Most shifts are from 6am to 2.30pm, 8am to 4.30pm, 10am to 6.30pm, or 11.30am to 8pm. Please note that there are no set days and times, as they operate seven days a week.

Salary: £16.50 per hour (term time only)

Position Summary: My client are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Sous Chef to join their culinary team. As a Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality meals for our students and staff. This role requires expertise in various cooking techniques, a passion for food, and the ability to manage a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in menu planning and developing innovative recipes that meet nutritional guidelines and dietary requirements
  • Ensure the smooth running of the kitchen during meal service, maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to food safety and hygiene standards
  • Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage inventory to minimize waste and control costs
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to maintain a safe and clean working environment, following health and safety regulations
  • Contribute to the development of menus that cater to a diverse range of tastes and dietary preferences
  • Foster a positive team spirit, promoting effective communication and cooperation within the kitchen staff


  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role, preferably within a school or institutional setting
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in kitchen operations
  • Proficiency in preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, including special dietary meals
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Strong leadership abilities and the capacity to supervise and motivate a team
  • A genuine passion for food and a commitment to delivering exceptional culinary experiences
  • Flexibility in working hours and willingness to work weekends and public holidays when required

Note: The position offers term time only pay, reflecting the school calendar and its breaks.
